CANAAN—Alan Brinkley, Ph.D., a prominent historian and professor at Columbia University who specializes in the history of 20th-century America and author of several books, articles, essays and published letters, will discuss his book “John F. Kennedy: The American Presidents Series: The 35th President,” Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Geer Village.

Alan Brinkley shows the reality of Kennedy’s achievements was much more complex than the legend. His brief presidency encountered significant failures—among them the Bay of Pigs fiasco—but Kennedy also had successes, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and his belated but powerful stand against segregation. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was a new kind of president.

Book signing will be available. There is no charge for the program and the public is welcome.

Geer Village is located on at 77 South Canaan Road in Canaan. Further information may be obtained at 860-824-8133. “John F. Kennedy: The American Presidents Series: The 35th President” is part of a series of author’s presentations for Geer residents and the public. Geer is a community-owned, locally operated, non-profit corporation which provides senior housing for independent living, skilled nursing care, adult day care, and outpatient rehabilitation.
