CORNWALL — Mohawk Mountain held the 10thAnnual Firefighter Race Sunday, welcoming teams from Morris to South Kensington.

The annual contest, which involves teams of firefighters snaking their way down a slolom at the ski area, raised $1,000 for the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital.

According to its websie, the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the state’s only burn center with standards in accordance with the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons ... is one of the only 62 verified burn centers in the United States. (It) treats nearly 200 inpatients and receives more than 800 outpatient visits each year.

The Morris Fire Department placed first with a time of 22.34 seconds. Middlebury Fire placed second and third, with 28.71 seconds and 30.81 seconds. The Kent Volunteer Fire Department placed fourth with 32.83 seconds; fifth place, South Kensington Fire Department,44.53 seconds; sixth place, Morris Fire Team, 61.23 seconds; and seventh place, Burlington Fire Department, 62.95 seconds.

During last year’s race, competitors hailed from Middlebury, Morris, Pleasant Valley, Kent, Avon and South Kensington. The Morris Fire Department won the race last year in 31.88 seconds. Pleasant Valley placed second with 35.15 seconds.

Middlebury had two teams and place third and fourth, with 36.34 second and 44.56 seconds. In fifth place was the Kent Volunteer Fire Department with 47.41 seconds, followed in sixth place by Avon Volunteer Fire Department with 1 minute and 10.49 seconds. South Kensington placed seventh with 1 minute and 31.46 seconds.
