TORRINGTON — The Northwest CT Chamber Leadership Program, Class of 2019, will be holding its first ever mental health awareness fair, “Wellness in the Park” at Coe Memorial Park in Torrington May 13.
The wellness fair will include booths from various community organizations, guest speakers discussing a range of topics from post-partum depression to Alzheimer’s, and a chance for community residents to speak about their experiences. In addition to providing these resources, and in an effort to provide an inclusive environment of support, the event will also feature food trucks, yoga and Zumba demonstrations, and music provided by Jacque Williams Entertainment.
This initiative hopes to bring more awareness to the abundance of resources available to individuals suffering from all types of mental illness and their loved ones who are affected. Not only will this fair seek to help members of the community find new avenues for help and guidance, but to cultivate a general, cultural atmosphere of education for all residents in the area. The goal is to provide this event free of charge to attendees.
Any money raised by sponsorships, beyond those needed to stage the event, will be donated to The McCall Center for Behavioral Health: Veterans Services. Event organizers extended their thanks to Torrington Savings Bank as their first Champion sponsor for this event.
The group of business leaders putting this effort together is comprised of three groups of thirteen members of the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce 2019 Leadership Program. This is the first time members of the Chamber’s Leadership Class have banded together for a multi-group event. The purpose of Leadership Northwest is to educate participants, enhance organizational and problem-solving skills, and provide a network of up-and-coming community leaders.
