Washington Depot >> Chef Amanda Glover makes baking simple, creative and fun in a cookbook named after her Airstream bakery, Sweetie, known for delicious breakfasts, desserts, savory, and gluten-free baked goodies popularized at farmers markets and farm stands in the Litchfield Hills.

The book is called “Sweetie: Bake Your Day: Sweet and Savory Baked Goods Anyone Can Make.” Hosted by Hickory Stick Bookshop, www.hickorystickbookshop.com/, the public is invited to join both the author and the illustrator on Saturday, August 5 at the Judy Black Memorial Park and Garden in Washington Depot.

There will be tastings, with Q&A. You’ll learn the fundamentals of how Ra creates a painting on a digital canvas using various iPad applications

Amanda Glover is best known for her baking business, AmandaBakes. After graduation from the Culinary Institute of America, she worked at the Mayflower Inn In Washington, where her love for the art of baking and pastry began. She further honed her skills as a pastry chef at the famed European patisserie Belgique in Kent, a four year stint resulting in a well developed repertoire in breads, chocolate making, and pastry production.

The next stop was at the venerable Winvian Resort in Morris, Connecticut. There she worked under the innovative and creative mind of Chef Chris Eddy. It was here she gained an appreciation for sustainable, locally sourced ingredients and products that would ultimately shape her worldview on the interconnectedness of a community built around food.

The day came when it was time to start her own business. She put her energy into owning her own food truck and came across this beautiful converted Airstream, that she would eventually name “Sweetie” and AmandaBakes was born.

Throughout this playfully illustrated book the reader will discover tips on using high quality and local ingredients. Equipment is kept to a minimum, making the recipes accessible to any avid home baker. All this in the spirit of Amanda who believes that anyone can bake!

A portion of all proceeds will support FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern CT. The mission of FISH NWCT is to provide the most basic of human needs- food, shelter and hope.

Since opening its doors in 1972, FISH has evolved into the largest emergency homeless shelter in the NWCT corner, providing families, individuals and veterans a safe and secure haven, as well as serving the residents of area communities as a food pantry.

Says the author, “As someone who has dedicated my life to making people happy with food, I want to sustain them as well. This book, thankfully, does both!”
