NEW MILFORD — A missing hiker was found dead Sunday night in Lake Lillinonah, state officials said.
According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, several agencies responded Sunday night for a report of a missing hiker in Lover’s Leap State Park.
A group the man was hiking with last saw him heading down from an overlook in the park around 3:45 p.m., according to Will Healey, a spokesman for DEEP. Healey said DEEP was notified about the missing hiker at 6:15 p.m.
The man’s identity was not immediately released. The state’s chief medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police, along with New Milford Police, the Water Witch Fire Company and Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue assisted in the search.
DEEP EnCon Police are investigating the incident.
