SHARON — The Sharon Historical Society & Museum is seeking entries for its upcoming show in Gallery SHS, “Depicting Our Town,” a juried exhibition and sale running from Jan. 18-March 6.
The Sharon Historical Society & Museum invites artists to submit works in any size (subject to space limitations), media and subject matter.
Art delivery date is Jan.. 11, 9-11 a.m. Each piece must have a completed and signed entry form.
An opening reception and awards presentation is scheduled for Jan. 18, 5-7 p.m.
Artists must pick up their unsold art on March 7, 9-11 a.m.
Requirements: Artwork in any medium: oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, pastel, ink, graphite, drawing, print, mixed media, sculpture, assemblage, fabric, stone, clay, metal. Any subject matter may be considered based on the museum’s terms and conditions. Artists pay $25 (non-refundable) for up to two pieces, $10 for each additional piece. Fees are payable in cash or check, payable to the Sharon Historical Society & Museum, when the art is delivered on Jan. 11.
Entries will be selected and judged by a judge or panel of judges. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to three works selected by the judges. In addition, guests who attend the show’s opening night will be invited to select their favorite work of art which will receive the “SHS Crowd Pleaser” award.
Artists are encouraged, but not required, to submit (prior to delivering art to SHS) a jpg. image of the artwork for which an entry form will be submitted. Images may be used in promotional materials for the show, as more fully described in the Entry Form and Terms and Conditions.
Artwork and completed entry forms must be brought to the historical society on Jan. 11 with entry forms and the artist’s name and address should be on each piece. Artists will be notified if their work will not be included in the show by Jan. 13. Unaccepted works must be picked up by Jan. 17.
The Sharon Historical Society & Museum will not be responsible for packing any unselected artwork for return to the artist or for any unselected artwork not picked up by January 17, 2020.
Entries may not have been previously exhibited at Gallery SHS and, unless an exception is made, all work must be for sale. All work must be original, no copies, reproductions or giclee prints. Artwork may not be removed prior to the show’s closing. All art work must be fully set up for on-site judging. All two-dimensional work must be securely wired (no saw-tooth or D rings), properly framed and ready to hang. Entrants are reminded that gallery space is limited, so the museum may be unable to accept very large works. All sculpture must be completely assembled, no component over 25 pounds. Sculptors are encouraged to provide appropriate pedestals for display of their work.

The SHS requests that artists donate an amount equal to 30 percent of each sale, payable by the artist upon the artist’s receipt of payment for sold work. The SHS will host the opening reception and publicize the show with posters, press releases and online announcements. Posters will be available for artists to distribute.
