The Torrington Fire Marshal’s Office, members of the Torrington Fire Department and the Torrington Housing Authority recently installed stovetop extinguishers in each unit at Laurel Acres, including the Community Room, according to a release.

The Stovetop “Firestop” Rangehood is an automatic fire suppressor for grease fires on indoor residential stovetops.

The Fire Marshal’s Office was able to buy the extinguishers through a $1,500 grant from Thomaston Savings Bank and a discounted price from Lowe’s. Extinguishers eventually also will be installed at Willow Gardens and Thompson Heights, the release said.
